Case from 2021–2025 (U.S. Attorney's Office release: Feb. 2, 2021; later developments are from court records and other sources cited below). Published on Scammers.com Oct. 16, 2026; case status is current as of that date.
Real estate developer Andrzej Lajewski owned Des Plaines-based Highland Consulting Corp. and Chicago-based Quality Management and Remodeling Inc. On Feb. 29, 2024, he was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release for his role in a mortgage fraud scheme, according to court records [2]. A 2021 indictment said the scheme defrauded financial institutions out of at least $3 million [1]. He had pleaded guilty to one count of the indictment on Aug. 15, 2023.
Two mortgage professionals charged with him, loan originator Agnieszka Siekowski and loan processor Aldona Bobrowicz, also pleaded guilty and were sentenced in June 2024 [2].
What prosecutors alleged
The indictment returned Jan. 28, 2021, alleged the following, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois [1]:
- The scheme. From 2010 to 2016, Lajewski worked with the two mortgage professionals and a remodeling company owner to get at least $3 million in mortgage loans on numerous properties on Chicago's South Side.
- False loan applications. They made, or caused others to make, false statements to lenders about buyers' employment history, income, assets, source of down payment and plans to live in the homes.
- Fake employment. In some cases Lajewski told lenders that buyers worked for his companies when they didn't.
All four were charged with multiple counts of financial institution fraud. The investigation was led by the HUD Office of Inspector General.

Red flags
- A developer or seller offering to "employ" you on paper or cover your down payment so you qualify for a loan.
- A loan officer who fills in income or job details for you or tells you not to worry about what the application says.
- Being told to claim you'll live in a home you're buying as an investment.
What to do
- Review your loan application before signing, and correct anything that's wrong. False statements can expose you to prosecution and to foreclosure.
- Check loan officers on the NMLS Consumer Access site at nmlsconsumeraccess.org.
- Report suspected mortgage fraud to the HUD OIG hotline at hudoig.gov/hotline and to the FBI at tips.fbi.gov.
