What happened
On October 14, 2026, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) added coinsitet.com to its Moneysmart investor alert list in the "Imposter" category.
ASIC lists the site as impersonating Coinbase Australia Pty Ltd (ACN 654922442, AFSL 000569752), whose genuine website is coinbase.com. The genuine Coinbase Australia is not connected to coinsitet.com.
How the scam works
ASIC's investor alert list covers companies and websites that may be targeting Australian consumers, do not hold an Australian financial services or credit licence, and are not allowed to offer investments in Australia.
Imposter sites borrow a real licensed company's name and licence numbers so that a quick check appears to confirm the offer. ASIC says that if someone contacts you with an investment opportunity or you find a suspicious website, be wary, and that a name missing from the list doesn't mean it can be trusted.
