What happened

On 5 November 2026 Germany's financial supervisor BaFin warned against job offers advertised as Kaufmännische Assistenz – Datenverwaltung on wewin-consulting.de and in Telegram chats. BaFin says the operators misuse the company details of Wewin Consulting GmbH of Hamburg in the imprint; those details are not correct, and BaFin describes this as identity misuse harming that Hamburg firm. As with similar warnings, BaFin says the work consists of receiving third-party payments into one's own account and forwarding them or converting them to crypto on instruction.

How the scam works

BaFin states that the money paid onto recruits' accounts presumably comes from victims of criminal, especially fraudulent, acts, and that transferring or exchanging such funds is an authorisation-required activity. It has warned repeatedly about roles previously marketed as Treuhandassistent work. The Hamburg firm whose identity is misused is not accused of running the scheme; BaFin's point is that the website operators are using its details falsely.

Job seekers who take part risk becoming money mules. BaFin advises verifying companies in its database, not lending a personal account to strangers, and reporting suspicious offers. Anyone who has already moved funds should stop, keep messages and bank records, and contact their bank and the police. The warning is published by BaFin; scammers.com has summarised it and not independently verified the job ads beyond BaFin's description.

Identity misuse in the imprint is a strong signal that the recruiter is not the Hamburg firm whose name appears on the page. Real companies do not need Telegram chats to hire people to receive third-party funds into personal accounts. If a job ad combines a familiar company name with payment-forwarding duties, walk away and report it. BaFin's company database is the place to verify who is actually authorised.
