What happened

Europa Press reported on 19 October 2026 that Spain's securities regulator, the CNMV, warned that day about entities that are not registered and therefore not authorised to provide investment services. One of them is the website xtbespana.com. According to the report, the CNMV says xtbespana.com has no relationship with, and is not a domain of, XTB, S.A., Sucursal en España, which is properly registered. The genuine XTB branch is the impersonated firm, not the operator of the site. The CNMV invites investors to check whether an entity is registered on its website or by calling 900 535 015.

What the warning means

The CNMV is Spain's securities market regulator. According to Europa Press, the CNMV says the entities named in its 19 October warning are not entered in the relevant register and therefore are not authorised to provide investment services or other activities subject to its supervision.

Unregistered firms are commonly called "chiringuitos financieros" in Spain. The CNMV publishes its warnings about them, along with warnings from international supervisors, on its website, and offers a free phone line, 900 535 015, for investors to check whether an entity is registered. It invites people to report offers of investment services from unregistered entities through its consultation form or its whistleblowing channel.

A website name that closely resembles a registered firm is not evidence of a link to that firm. Before sending money, investors can check the firm's exact name and website against the CNMV's registers, and contact the registered firm directly through details they find themselves rather than those given by the website.
