What happened

In a post dated October 23, 2026, MalwareTips says dealdrop.online is a gift card scam. It says the page's title reads 'Claim Your £500 Argos Gift Card' and that its claim button opens an affiliate-network tracking link rather than the website of the store it names. According to MalwareTips, the page is an affiliate funnel that collects visitors' personal details and pushes them to complete paid deals and trials, and the promised gift card never arrives; MalwareTips says it is not connected to the store it names. It advises not to enter details or start deals, and anyone who did to cancel trials before they renew, watch their card statements, and expect unwanted marketing calls and email because details are passed to marketing partners.

How the scam works

Gift-card pages like this offer a large reward from a famous retailer for completing 'a few quick steps'. MalwareTips says the steps usually involve entering an email address, answering a few questions and completing some 'recommended deals'. The deals aren't clear until you're already in. The claim button leads to a tracking link that records the click and pays the operator when the visitor signs up. Forms then collect contact details such as email, phone number, address and date of birth.

Visitors are pushed toward sponsored offers: paid trials or subscriptions, app installs or credit applications. The rules keep changing so that the card is always one more deal away, and no company is named as responsible for handing over the reward. The real cost comes from the trials that renew, and from the personal details passed to marketing partners, which can lead to unwanted calls and emails. Argos is impersonated and is not involved.
