What happened

The fact-checking site Mimikama reported on 28 October 2026 a fake news page that copies the look of the German broadcaster ZDFheute, including its logo. The page sits on derwochenrueckblick.click and carries a sensational headline about a supposed studio clash on a talk show involving the politicians Tino Chrupalla and Friedrich Merz. Mimikama says the story was invented. ZDFheute and the two politicians are not involved; the page only borrows their names and the broadcaster's branding.

How the scam works

This is a common "fake news article" lure. The page is built to look like a real news story, with a date stamp, a dramatic headline and a layout that mimics the broadcaster. The aim is not to inform the reader but to get a click. Mimikama says the page leads on to a dubious investment website, the usual next step being a trading or crypto platform that promises easy profits and asks for an initial deposit. Once money is paid in, the site shows impressive gains on screen but blocks withdrawals or asks for more fees. Mimikama notes that earlier versions of the same trick used other broadcasters' logos and different finance platforms, but the principle stays the same.

The checks Mimikama recommends are simple: look at the web address, which is not a ZDF domain; look for the same story on the broadcaster's real website and on other news sites; and be suspicious of any article that ends in a push to invest. Real news outlets do not link a political talk-show story to a money-making platform.

Red flags

  • A news-style page on an unrelated domain (derwochenrueckblick.click), not the broadcaster's own site.
  • A sensational headline about well-known politicians that no real outlet is reporting.
  • A broadcaster's logo and layout used on a page you reached from an ad or a link.
  • The article quickly steers you toward an investment or trading platform.
  • No author, no verifiable sources and no matching story on the real broadcaster's site.

If you were targeted

  1. 1Check the address bar: a ZDF story will be on zdf.de or the official app, not a .click domain.
  2. 2Search the headline on the real broadcaster's website and on other news sites before believing it.
  3. 3Do not register or deposit money on any platform reached from a news-style page.
  4. 4If you already paid, contact your bank or card issuer straight away and keep screenshots.
  5. 5Report the page to the platform where you saw the link, and to the police.
