What happened

On 29 October 2026 the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) added 'agifinanz.com' to its warning list of companies and individuals that may be carrying out activities requiring authorisation without being authorised by FINMA. FINMA lists the website www.agifinanz.com and an address given as 1204 Genève, and notes that the entity is not entered in the commercial register. In its remarks FINMA also refers to the address as www.aqifinanz.com and states that the website is not related to Agi Finance SA, Geneva, which is registered in the Swiss commercial register. The register number FINMA gives for that firm is CHE-106.737.909.

How the scam works

FINMA's warning list names companies and individuals that may be carrying out activities that require authorisation without having it. An entry is a public caution to consumers; FINMA does not say in the entry how the site operates or whether anyone has lost money. Websites of this type are typically investment or financial-service offers that look like a Swiss financial firm, carry a Geneva address and ask for deposits or advance fees. The site's address is only a letter or two away from the name of the registered firm, and FINMA's remark spells it aqifinanz.com in one place, which shows how easily such addresses are mistaken for one another. Readers should therefore check each letter of an address.

Swiss financial service providers that need authorisation are listed on FINMA's website, and Swiss companies can be looked up in the commercial register. An operator with no register entry, an address with no street, no named manager and a .com address should be treated with great caution before any money or documents are handed over.

Red flags

  • A financial website with no company registered in the Swiss commercial register, as FINMA notes for this site.
  • An address given only as a city and postcode (1204 Genève) with no street or named manager.
  • A web address that is nearly identical to a registered firm's name.
  • Offers of loans, investments or returns that arrive by cold call, email or online ad.
  • Requests for advance fees or deposits before any service is provided.

If you were targeted

  1. 1Check FINMA's list of authorised institutions and the Swiss commercial register before dealing with any Swiss provider.
  2. 2Type the address of a firm yourself and compare it letter by letter with the registered firm's address.
  3. 3Do not send money, identity documents or crypto to agifinanz.com.
  4. 4If you already paid, tell your bank, keep all messages and report to the police and to FINMA.
  5. 5Beware of "recovery" services that approach you after a loss.
