What happened
The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) added Smart World Invest, with the website https://www.smartworldinvest.com, to its alert list of suspicious entities on 3 November 2026. The SFC classifies it as an unlicensed entity and says in its remarks that the entity falsely claims to be an SFC-licensed corporation. The entry shows no address.
How the scam works
The SFC alert list entry is brief. It gives the name, the website and the remark that the entity falsely claims to be SFC-licensed, and does not describe how people are approached, what is offered or whether anyone has lost money. The commission's standard note on the page explains that unlicensed entities often use names similar to legitimate companies to confuse investors. It adds that some unlicensed entities target Hong Kong investors through financial investment trading platforms on the internet, and that people who deal with a company not licensed by the SFC may not be protected by the regulatory framework the SFC enforces.
A false claim of SFC licensing is a frequent tool in online investment scams. A site shows a licence number or says it is regulated in Hong Kong, so that a visitor feels able to deposit money or hand over personal details. The SFC says the claim about Smart World Invest is false, and nothing on its page confirms any licence. The SFC does not say whether the site has accepted deposits or how it was promoted, and its alert is not a court finding.
The SFC advises the public to deal only with licensed entities and to hang up on cold callers. A person can check whether a firm is licensed using the SFC's Public Register of Licensed Persons and Registered Institutions, which is free to search, rather than relying on any claim made on a website or in a chat.
