What happened
JBL Japan's official X account (@JBL_JAPAN) posted an 'important' warning on 16 October 2026 about impersonation DMs. It says it has received reports of malicious impersonation accounts, posing as JBL's official account or as JBL staff, sending direct messages that offer work requests, collaborations and PR deals.
The warning graphic attached to the post contrasts the genuine account, JBL JAPAN (@JBL_JAPAN), with example impersonation accounts named 'jbl_officiall' and 'bakergolden5'. JBL is the impersonated brand and is not involved; the genuine official account is @JBL_JAPAN.
How the scam works
According to JBL Japan, the fake accounts use usernames and profile icons that closely resemble the official account, so a DM can look like a genuine approach from the brand. The messages pitch work requests, collaborations or PR campaigns.
JBL Japan says it never uses DMs to direct people to suspicious external links or to ask for credit card or personal information. Any DM that does so is therefore not from JBL.
JBL Japan asks anyone who receives an unexpected, suspicious DM not to click any URL or reply, and to block and report the account promptly. Before acting on any brand collaboration offer, check that it comes from the brand's verified official account rather than a lookalike.
