What happened

MalwareTips reports Lululemon-giftcards.netlify.app is a gift card scam whose page title reads "Claim Your $750 Lululemon Gift Card – Exclusive Reward Program". The retailer does not run or approve the offer; Lululemon is the brand being used as bait, not a party to it. MalwareTips found the claim button opens a tracking link on linkthem.net, an affiliate network domain, and that the page runs on a free Netlify address. Netlify is a legitimate hosting platform whose free addresses anyone can use, and nothing in the report implicates the platform itself. This is MalwareTips' assessment; we have not tested the page ourselves.

How the scam works

Reward funnels like this one are built from a single script: change the store name, the amount and the domain, and the next page is ready. The page offers a large gift card, shows a few numbered steps and a bright button. Through the affiliate link the visitor is registered as a lead, then asked for an email address, phone number, home address and date of birth. MalwareTips says the card can be "unlocked" only by completing sponsored deals such as paid trials, subscriptions, app installs or credit applications, and that more conditions keep appearing. A free Netlify address is cheap to create and quick to abandon, so pages of this type often disappear within days of being reported.

What victims typically end up with is a flood of marketing emails, texts and calls, paid trials they did not mean to start, and no gift card. MalwareTips advises not entering details or starting any deals, and, if someone already has, acting before trial periods end by cancelling subscriptions and checking their card statement.

Red flags

  • A very large gift card ($750) from a well-known brand for a few quick steps.
  • A web address on a free hosting domain (netlify.app), not the retailer's own site.
  • A claim button that goes to an affiliate tracking domain (linkthem.net).
  • Requirements to complete "sponsored deals", trials or credit applications.
  • Conditions that keep changing, and no company named as responsible.

If you were targeted

  1. 1Do not give your details or start any deals on Lululemon-giftcards.netlify.app.
  2. 2If you already did, cancel trials or subscriptions before they bill and monitor your card and credit report.
  3. 3Check promotions only on the retailer's official website or app.
  4. 4Use a separate email address for contests and offers, and block or report unwanted calls and texts.
  5. 5Report the page to the retailer and to your national consumer-protection agency.
