What happened

MalwareTips published a buyer warning on 2 November 2026 about Fitgymdepot.shop, which it describes as a fake store with a copied catalog. It says the site takes its products, photos and branding from genuine brands and stores, none of which runs it, and shows polished product photos and detailed descriptions at prices that seem too tempting to ignore. An item marked down from $180 to $39 is its example, often paired with a countdown timer or a “closing sale” banner. MalwareTips found that fitgymdepot.shop was registered on 3 December 2025 and that its URL scanner gives it a Safety Score of 35/100, rated High Risk.

How the scam works

MalwareTips describes how buyers are caught. On a phone nothing looks wrong: the layout looks right, the products look familiar and the checkout button works. The network behind copycat stores like this one runs a cycle. Ads go out in force, orders come in, and when complaints build, it moves on to new domains. MalwareTips says real brands run their sales on their own websites or through retailers they name, and that a store nobody can trace, cutting an entire catalog by 70 per cent, is not running a genuine sale. It adds that shops like this rarely list a registered company, tax number or street address that can be checked, so there is nobody to hold responsible when something goes wrong.

Buyers at copycat stores typically receive something very different from the pictures, or nothing at all, and have little chance of getting their money back. MalwareTips advises people not to buy from the site or enter card details at its checkout. If you already paid, it suggests gathering the order confirmation, product page and emails, contacting your card issuer or payment service quickly to ask about a dispute, and watching your statement for other charges. A shopper can check a brand by going to its official website directly, and looking up when a domain was registered, because a brand's official shop does not sit on a newly registered domain.
