What happened
Austrian fact-checking and scam-warning site Mimikama warned in its WarnRadar on 30 October 2026 about a fake page posing as Austria's public health insurer, the Österreichische Gesundheitskasse (ÖGK). Mimikama's screenshot shows a page that uses the ÖGK name and logo and is headed “Datenverifizierung” (data verification). It claims that, to guarantee access to services, a security check is carried out which is “a legally required process”, and it asks visitors to complete it. The address shown in the browser is at-oegk.com, which is not an official ÖGK web address. The ÖGK is not involved in the page.
How the scam works
The page leans on the authority of a public body. It warns that if the check is not completed there may be delays to the person's services or payouts, which creates pressure to act quickly. It reassures visitors that the process takes “only about 2 minutes” and that their data is “transmitted securely”, and it offers a green “Jetzt starten” (start now) button. Mimikama says the aim is to get people to enter personal data on a fraudulent site once they press that button. Mimikama did not report what data the later steps request, but the setup is typical of phishing pages that go on to ask for personal and payment or banking details.
Mimikama's analysis points to several warning signs: the supposed legal obligation, the threat of delayed benefits, the promise that the check is quick and safe, and above all the unofficial web address. It advises readers not to click the button and not to enter any data, to open the official ÖGK website or app manually if they want to check anything, to look closely at the address before entering information, to contact the ÖGK only through its official channels, and to report and delete the message or page.
