What happened
Hong Kong wine retailer Opak Cellar published an anti-fraud statement saying a fake Facebook page is impersonating it and running ads offering discounted bottles such as Dom Pérignon, Yamazaki and Martell. According to the statement, the fake page (facebook.com/profile.php?id=100067633537153) asks buyers to contact it privately and pay by bank transfer to a personal bank account, and uses the phone number +852 4736 3086, which Hong Kong Police's Scameter flags as high risk of scam. Opak Cellar says the page is not its own.
How the scam works
Opak Cellar says the fake page copies its trademarks, store photos and product images and runs paid Meta ads. The ads it lists offer deals on well-known bottles: a buy-two-get-one-free offer on a 2015 Dom Pérignon, a Yamazaki 2021 Mizunara Oak Limited Edition at an extremely low price, and a limited-time price drop on Martell X.O. Interested buyers are asked to make contact privately, and the statement says they are then asked to pay by bank transfer to a personal account rather than through a shop checkout.
The company's checks point the same way. It says the page has no website, was created in October 2017 under a history unrelated to Opak Cellar, and uses a phone number that the Hong Kong Police Force's Scameter flags as high risk. The genuine Opak Cellar, by contrast, says it takes orders only through www.opakcellar.com and its official Facebook page, and that its staff never ask for transfers to personal accounts, card CVV codes or one-time passwords.
Opak Cellar is the impersonated business here and is not accused. It says it has appealed to Meta, kept evidence and may report to police if customers lose money.
