What happened

In a scam alert posted on its official X account on October 21, 2026, Parity Technologies said it had been made aware of a fraudulent website, parity-wallet[.]com, impersonating Parity Technologies and offering potentially malicious wallet software downloads. Parity said the website is not affiliated with it and told people not to visit the site, not to download any files from it and not to run software obtained from it, and to verify sources before downloading any software.

How the scam works

Fake download sites like this copy a known brand's name and offer wallet software that looks official. Malicious wallet apps or installers can steal recovery phrases and private keys, swap copied wallet addresses, or install other malware on the computer. Because the domain combines the company's name with the word 'wallet', it can appear in searches or be shared in chats and forums as if it were the official download page.

Parity Technologies is impersonated and not involved. In general, wallet software should only be downloaded from the developer's official website or verified repositories, reached by typing the address yourself, and checked against official announcements before installing.

Crypto users should be especially careful with any download that asks them to import an existing wallet, because entering a recovery phrase into software controlled by criminals hands them the funds. Checking the publisher, comparing the address with the one listed on the company's official channels and verifying file signatures where available all reduce the risk of installing a counterfeit.

  • Wallet software offered outside the developer's official website or repositories.
  • Download links shared in chats, forums or search ads.
  • Software that asks you to import an existing wallet with your recovery phrase.

If you were targeted

  1. 1Don't visit parity-wallet.com or download or run anything from it.
  2. 2Download wallet software only from the developer's official site or verified repositories.
  3. 3If you installed software from the site, disconnect the device, remove the software and scan the device.
  4. 4If you entered a recovery phrase into that software, move funds to a new wallet created on a clean device.
  5. 5Report the site to your browser's safe-browsing service.
