What happened
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) issued a scam alert on 21 October 2026 about a document and email sent about a supposed UK work visa application and offer of employment that misuse the name of Wesley Gryk Solicitors LLP. The SRA says it has seen an email from 'Attorney McDougal Gregor' of 'Wesley Gryk Solicitors LLP' giving the address 'Ashwood House, Ellen Street, Oldham, OL9 6QR, United Kingdom' and the email address Mcdougalgregor@consultant.com. The SRA does not authorise or regulate anyone called 'McDougal Gregor', and business through that address and email is not done by an SRA-regulated firm or person. The genuine firm, Wesley Gryk Solicitors LLP (SRA ID 446311, based at Southwark Street, London), has confirmed it has no connection to the email or document. The SRA advises checking any such correspondence by contacting the law firm directly through reliable, established means. The Oldham address given in the email is publicly listed as the office of an unrelated, legitimate immigration advice business; the SRA alert does not suggest that business is involved.
What the warning means
Fake job offers and work-visa schemes often use the names of real UK law firms to make paperwork look official. Typically, a victim is told they have been offered a job in the UK and must pay for visa processing, a certificate of sponsorship, legal fees or travel costs before they can start, and may be asked for passport copies and other personal documents that can be used for identity fraud. Using a free webmail address such as consultant.com rather than the firm's own domain is a common sign.
The genuine Wesley Gryk Solicitors LLP is based at 3rd Floor, 115 Southwark Street, London SE1 0JF, and its genuine email addresses use the gryklaw.com domain. The SRA advises anyone who receives correspondence like this to carry out due diligence and to contact the law firm directly through reliable, established means, such as contact details found independently, before sending money or documents. You can check whether a firm or individual is regulated through the SRA's Solicitors Register, or by contacting the SRA.
