What happened

Dave Finances reported that Scam Sniffer added wallet-rectify-sync.com to its blocklist on October 13, 2026 and classified it as seed phishing. It was one of five indicators added within about an hour.

How the scam works

Unlike a drainer, which tries to trick you into approving a malicious transaction, seed phishing tries to get the recovery phrase (seed phrase) or private key itself.

That difference matters. A malicious approval can sometimes be revoked before it is used. A recovery phrase cannot be made secret again: anyone who has it can rebuild the wallet elsewhere. Ethereum's security guidance, cited in the article, calls the recovery phrase the master key to a wallet and says never to give it to a website or a support representative.

The words "rectify" and "sync" in the domain match a common trick: seed requests dressed up as wallet synchronisation, validation, migration or technical repair rather than an open request for control of your funds.

A blocklist listing shows the site is malicious infrastructure; it is not evidence of confirmed losses.

Red flags

  • Any website asking you to type in your 12- or 24-word recovery phrase.
  • "Rectify", "sync", "validate" or "migrate wallet" pages reached from links or direct messages.
  • "Support" staff who ask for your seed phrase to fix a problem.

If you were targeted

  1. 1Never enter a recovery phrase on a website.
  2. 2If you entered your phrase on this site, create a new wallet with a new phrase immediately and move all remaining assets to it; revoking approvals will not help.
  3. 3Report the site to your wallet provider and to the FBI at ic3.gov (or your national cybercrime agency).
