A “settlement check” from a lawyer’s personal account is a red flag when no lawsuit was ever filed. Status: Disbarred Feb. 6, 2025 (effective immediately) [1].

What the Bar News reports

According to The Florida Bar News [1]:

  1. Povilaitis (admitted 1997) concealed neglect of a client’s civil case by paying him what she falsely claimed were settlement funds from her personal checking account—though there was no settlement because she never filed the case—and misrepresented the nonexistent settlement to the Bar.
  2. In a separate matter she was arrested in 2021 for DUI-related conduct, ultimately pled no contest to reckless driving, and failed to respond to Bar inquiries or participate in the disciplinary proceedings.
