Personal injury clients rely on lawyers to pay medical providers honestly and disburse what is left. On June 26, 2025, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas announced that former attorney Clyde J. Moore had pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit mail fraud and filing a false tax return after admitting he defrauded clients out of millions in settlement funds [1].
Status: Moore has pleaded guilty. U.S. District Judge George C. Hanks set sentencing for Sept. 8 (year as stated in the June 26, 2025 release). Co-defendant Mark Broussard previously pleaded guilty to the same charges and also awaits sentencing [1].
What he admitted
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office [1]:
- Between 2012 and 2021, Moore and others at Clyde J. Moore Attorney at Law P.C. inflated medical costs and falsely told clients the firm had paid providers more than it had, reducing clients' settlement shares.
- Skimmed funds from the firm's trust account paid for Ferraris, private school tuition, and an investment account; about $2.4 million in losses.
- As part of the plea, Moore will pay the IRS more than $500,000 in tax restitution and compensate clients in an amount the court will set.
