A sole trustee who is also a lawyer still owes the beneficiaries every dollar of authorized fees—and nothing more. According to The Florida Bar News’s July 1, 2025 report of recent Supreme Court orders, William G. Schlotthauer of Sarasota was disbarred effective immediately following a June 26, 2025 court order in Case No. SC2024-1821, after misappropriating at least $1,061,499 from trusts for which he served as sole trustee [1].
Status: Disbarred June 26, 2025 (effective immediately). The Bar News states Schlotthauer filed a motion for rehearing that remained pending as of the July 1, 2025 report; under Bar practice, filing rehearing does not alter the effective date of the discipline [1].
